DOJ's own released files point to classified Epstein material that was never made public

A CBS News review found references to classified items and gaps in the numbering, contradicting the Justice Department's account.

What we know

  • A CBS News review of DOJ-released files found at least three documents indicating classified Epstein material was collected. CBS News
  • One inventory shows classified items, including two CDs, delivered in March 2025 to the Deputy Attorney General's office, then run by Todd Blanche. CBS News
  • Blanche, now Attorney General, has said nothing was withheld on national-security grounds. CBS News
  • CBS also found numbering gaps, including 66 missing images in a set of about 4,500 Epstein check images. CBS News
  • DOJ did not respond to CBS. It has said everything the law required was released and the rest was unrelated, privileged or duplicate. CBS News

Still unknown: What the classified material contains, and whether it was later declassified or released.

How it was framed

Left-rated outlets framed the report as evidence the administration is hiding records. The New American, a conservative outlet we haven't rated yet, asked why national-security secrecy applies at all. IBTimes used the most hedged language.
